TRIALLISTS Tom Hurst and Jai Reason caught the eye as York City Reserves beat Grimsby Town 2-1 at KitKat Crescent.

Assistant boss Eric Winstanley hailed the contribution of 20-year-old right-back Hurst and 18-year-old midfielder Reason, who both played the full 90 minutes of last night’s Central League clash.

Winstanley said: “Tom Hurst had a very, very good trial game, especially considering he hadn’t played for ten weeks. He looks quick.

“Jai Reason is still only young.

“But he blended in nicely in midfield alongside Steven Hogg.”

Hogg was making his first City appearance after recovering from thigh problems and shingles in pre-season.

Winstanley said: “We brought Hogg off after 65 minutes. It was his first game and he’s obviously not match fit.

“You can’t have the time he’s had off and then come back and pick it up straight away, but he’s got three-quarters of a game under his belt.”

The Mariners led 1-0 at half-time, but two goals from striker Adam Boyes won the game for City.

Craig Farrell played 65 minutes on the right wing.
