COLIN Walker has missed out on bringing Morecambe midfielder Michael Twiss to KitKat Crescent.

The City boss said he had tried to sign the 30-year-old, but was foiled when Twiss revealed he wanted to remain in the Lancashire area.

Twiss has scored 54 times for Morecambe in 160 appearances and, despite being chased by a number of clubs, would have had the Minstermen as his preferred choice had personal circumstances not got in the way.

Walker said: “Unfortunately, he wanted to stay in the area. He was quite keen to come to York of the teams who were interested in him. York was the one he wanted to come to, but his personal situation has stopped that happening.”

Twiss signed for Morecambe in 2004, netting 22 times in his first season at Christie Park, and was part of the squad which was promoted to the Football League in May 2007 through the play-offs.
