YORK City winger Martyn Woolford has joined Coca-Cola League One side Scunthorpe United for an undisclosed fee.

Woolford has signed a three-year contract with The Iron after City accepted a deal, believed to be a six-figure sum up front plus a sell-on clause.

Sophie Hicks, City communications and community director, said: "Martyn has attracted a lot of interest pre-season.

"He was offered an extended contract by York City in June, but did not sign it as he wished to keep his options open.

"Scunthorpe United made the club a very good offer for Martyn and he was also keen to join them in order to further his football ambitions.

"Martyn has been a great player and ambassador for York City Football Club and we felt it would not be right to stand in the way of his personal progress when he has so much talent and ability.

"The board will be ensuring a significant portion of the transfer fee is allocated to Colin Walker’s playing budget to strengthen the team further now and during the season."
