YORK City have released centre-back Carl Jones.

The former Hartlepool United defender signed for City in the summer and featured in the opening two games of the Blue Square Premier campaign.

However, he suffered a fractured cheekbone in training and was loaned out to Gateshead to regain match fitness.

Gateshead are believed to be keen to turn the loan into a permanent deal, leading to his release by the Minstermen.

The exit of Jones follows hot on the heels of the departure of striker Paul Brayson and midfielder Chas Wrigley.
