F1 RACING provided the shock result of the day in the York Minster Engineering League premier division, coming from behind to bring Huntington Rovers 100 per cent record to an end in style.

Having led through Chris Dyson inside ten minutes, Rovers looked on course to collect the points but the visitors levelled before the break courtesy of George Misailides and quickly took the lead just after the interval through Mike Flinders.

Dyson then had the ball in the net twice but was ruled offside on both occasions and, as Huntington’s frustration grew, F1 slowly began to gain the upper hand.

The visitors moved further in front in the 75th minute via Lia King and were only denied a fourth goal by a superb penalty save from James Edmond late in the game.

Old Malton St Mary’s took full advantage of Huntington’s first slip-up of the league campaign, fighting back from a goal down against Wigginton Grasshoppers to run out 4-1 winners.

An early foul on Matthew Tiplady allowed Neale Holmes to fire Wigginton into the lead from the penalty spot.

However, Old Malton capitalised on a controversial free-kick on the stroke half-time, with Darren Dunning providing a pinpoint ball for Liam Preston to head home.

Dunning went on to last in a penalty early in the second period before Jack Simpson increased the lead shortly afterwards.

The scoring was completed when Simpson deftly lifted the ball over Grasshoppers keeper Michael Clancy to send the hosts back to the summit of the premier division.

Dunnington, meanwhile, completed the weekend’s most impressive comeback, trailing Osbaldwick 3-0 at one point before finally prevailing 6-4.

Lucas Wilson and Isaac Clark got Osso off to a perfect start before an unbelievable free-kick from Mike Hattee gave the home side the commanding advantage they still held at the hour mark.

However, Dunnington responded with Tom Anderson hitting a hat-trick in the final half-hour, as Tom Fleet, Joe Allerton and Connor Mayall also joined him on the scoresheet.

Adam Burton’s fourth goal for Osso, therefore, proved nothing more than a late consolation.

Dringhouses are up to fourth after a 5-0 demolition of Copmanthorpe.

Matty Mulhearn set them on their way with a calm finish and second-half efforts from Rob Hutton, Sam Backhouse, Dave Watson and Sam Drake put the result beyond doubt.

Goals from Reg Miah, Tosh Reid (2) and Luke Wilkinson (2) saw Poppleton edge a nine-goal thriller with Thorpe United.

Church Fenton won by the odd goal in seven, collecting a 4-3 victory at Kirkbymoorside, but Sporting Knavesmire’s inconsistent form continued with a 4-0 home defeat to Hemingbrough United.

The only game in division one, meanwhile, saw draw specialists Strensall Tigers collect another point following a 2-2 draw with Heworth.

Danny Franks and Jason Heslop netted for the home side with Dan Marshall and Nick Walker replying for Heworth.

In Reserve A, Thorpe United continued their excellent start to the season a 5-2 victory over defending champions Wigginton Grasshoppers thanks to Jay Smythe (4) and Dan Mustill.

Alessandro Delrio and John Cavanagh replied for Wiggy, while Church Fenton sit second in the standings after a 3-1 victory over Poppleton United.

Osbaldwick ended up 4-3 losers to Easingwold Town despite leading 3-2 with five minutes to play thanks to goals from Nick Lawrie, Matt O’Connell and Tom Young.
