WITH table-topping Huntington Rovers enjoying the day off, Old Malton St Mary’s closed the gap on their York Minster Engineering League premier division title rivals to three points following a 4-2 win at F1 Racing.

St Mary’s recovered after falling behind to Adam Tiffany and Chris Dempsey efforts, with Grant Bulmer, Liam Preston, Jack Simpson and Dean Nuttall securing victory for the visitors.

Second-placed Dunnington lost ground following a 6-0 thrashing at Wigginton Grasshoppers.

Harry Clapham opened the scoring and was then brought down when clear on goal, which saw the away team reduced to ten men.

A Clapham header subsequently made it 2-0 before half-time.

Dale Holding added a further header, while Clapham took his personal tally to four and Eddy Clapham rounded off the scoring.

Church Fenton defeated Poppleton United 3-2, despite consolations from Charlie Marshall and Luke Wilkinson.

A Lucas Owen effort, meanwhile, was the only solace for Sporting Knavesmire in a 6-1 loss against Dringhouses, who had Dave Watson (3), Elliot Frodsham, Sam Drake and Matty Mulhearn on the scoresheet.

Luke Crowther, Michael Braithwaite and Edward Wileman earned Thorpe United a 3-3 draw with Tadcaster Magnets, who replied through Joshua Wilson (2) and Finn Coughlan.

In midweek, Huntington extended their 100 per cent start to a fifth game by beating reigning champions Wigginton 4-3.

Jamie Willstrop opened the scoring for Grasshoppers, but John-Paul Vass levelled.

The game was then turned on its head as Alex Burton prodded home when Michael Clancy failed to hold a Vass free kick and Chris Dyson made it 3-1 from close range.

Wigginton reduced the deficit after the restart when Jordan Holt headed in Neale Holmes’ free-kick.

But a Rovers breakaway saw Will Edmond secure the points with a clinical low finish, despite Holding going on to add a deflected free kick late on.

Dunnington defeated Copmanthorpe 5-1 thanks to the efforts of Tom Anderson (3) and Samson Wildwood, while Chris Storey was the hosts’ marksman.

Paul Moran earned Thorpe a shock 1-0 triumph over Church Fenton.

Old Malton recovered from falling behind to a 25-yard Jonathan Brown drive for Kirkbymoorside by prevailing 4-1 thanks to Stephen Baxter (2), Preston and Nuttall.

Goals from Danny Penrose and Mulhearn saw Dringshouses overcome F1 Racing 2-0 despite Dempsey rattling the crossbar from 25 yards in between.

Dan Davidson (2) and Oliver Newby netted as Osbaldwick beat Sporting Knavesmire 3-2 despite the latter fighting back through Sam Lingard and Danny Owers.

Hemingbrough United eventually emerged triumphant in a nine-goal thriller against a Poppleton United team who were reduced to ten men.

An own goal, plus strikes from Justin Benford, Reece Holmes and Reg Miah, made up the Poppy haul whilst Hemingbrough’s success was assured by efforts from Guy May, Craig Howden, Benedict Ewart (2) and another own goal.
