MARTYN Moxon bemoaned a tough two days for Yorkshire against Worcestershire at Scarborough, but praised their bowlers as they toiled away.

The White Rose only claimed one wicket during the second day as Worcestershire replied to 216 with 310-1 as Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali hit unbeaten centuries and shared an unbroken 199 for the second wicket.

Jack Brooks claimed the only wicket to fall in the day, with Mitchell himself admitting the Pears rode their luck.

“It’s been a tough two days,” said Yorkshire’s director of cricket. “You can’t fault the lads’ efforts.

“The Worcester lads have played really well, but they have played and missed quite a bit.

“From a bowling perspective, the efforts have been excellent. We just haven't got our rewards.

“It was tough batting on the first day. I think everyone saw that. The conditions played differently to what we expected to be honest.

“Clearly we’re up against it. “I think we’ll bowl worse at times for more rewards, but that’s cricket. You have to give credit to Mitchell and Ali in particular, but (Tom) Fell early on.

“They were very strong in defence and scored when they could. They were very determined, but we didn’t have much luck.

“At times you could argue we bowled a little bit short, but when you’re not taking wickets it’s hard work, and , like I say, they played very well.

“When you only get 200, you need early wickets, which we didn't get. “We have to get some early wickets in the morning and bat much better in the second innings. It’s going to be a huge challenge for us.”
