Dean Smith’s Brentford will aim to extend their unbeaten start to the season when they face Sheffield Wednesday at home on Sunday.

The Owls head to West London having taken just one point from their opening two games, while Brentford are three points better off – notably thrashing Rotherham 5-1.

But Smith is urging his team not to underestimate their upcoming opponents.

“They’ve always had a strong squad,” he said.

“We know that they have some talented players. They’ve got a relatively new manager, but we are starting to see the patterns in their play coming through.

“The good thing about Tuesday night is that, despite the 11 changes, you wouldn’t have seen an awful lot different in terms of our style and structure.

“That is a credit to the players themselves.

Despite making an excellent start to the season, Smith explained that the Bees will not be getting carried away by their early achievements.

However, the boss believes his squad have enough potential, particularly in attack, to have a successful season.

“We are not a surprise package anymore,” he continued.

“We have been in the league for four years now, but we know exactly where we have come from and know that we have to work hard for everything.”

“That is the beauty of football. You are always trying to learn and get better.

“There’s a lot of good centre forwards here. Neil Maupay is a promising player, Ollie Watkins too. He’s scored a couple of goals already and will be eager to beat last year’s tally.
