CURZON Ashton will arrive at York City tomorrow hoping to rack up three straight away victories at National League North level for the first-ever time.

The Greater Manchester outfit, currently enjoying their fourth season in the sixth tier, saw off hosts Alfreton 1-0 on Tuesday night thanks to Joe Guest’s 90th-minute strike, having also kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 opening-day triumph at Darlington.

With every side in the division having now played home and away twice, Curzon and early pacesetters Chorley are the only teams boasting 100 per cent records on the road.

In between their successes, though, the Nash have suffered back-to-back home defeats against Chester (0-3) and Hereford (0-1), with the away results representing a change in fortunes for John Flanagan’s men, who finished 2017/18 by taking just one point from a possible 18 on their travels.

The club last enjoyed a hat-trick of consecutive away triumphs in March 2015 when Trafford, Stamford and Matlock were seen off in the Evo-Stik Northern League premier division.

Goals have proven hard to come by so far, however, for the ninth-placed Tameside Stadium side, with a return of three the lowest outside those clubs currently occupying the relegation zone - Nuneaton (one), Guiseley (two) and Southport (one).

Midfielders Guest and Connor Hughes are the only Curzon players to hit the target in 2018/19 after Darlington’s Jonny Maddison put through his own goal on the opening day, but Flanagan’s attack could be enhanced by the return of last season’s leading marksman Niall Cummins at Bootham Crescent.

The 31-year-old forward scored 15 league goals in 2017/18, including a hat-trick during February’s 4-1 thumping of the Minstermen.

He missed the start of this campaign because of a knee injury, but has featured off the bench during the last two contests and is now believed to be ready for a first XI spot.

Defender Max Cartwright is yet to feature, though, this term.
