A BILLY Whitehouse header ensured Tadcaster Albion rounded off their pre-season with an impressive victory over higher league North Ferriby United.

The only goal of the game came half way through the first half when Casey Stewart’s inch-perfect cross allowed Whitehouse to power the ball home.

The Brewers - whose former York City goalkeeper Michael Ingham has not conceded a single goal in pre-season - now cast their attention to the opening game of the Evo-Stik League east campaign at home to Carlton Town on Saturday.

Hosts North Ferriby, relegation from National League North last term, started the brighter as former Scarborough Athletic defender Joe Lamplough headed off target from a corner. Captain James Piercy also saw a looping header hit the bar.

But Taddy responded as Casey Stewart - like a new signing after returning from his trial with Harrogate Town - tested keeper Lewis Exall, and the Brewers soon began to dominate possession.

It was an increasingly impressive display from Tadcaster, with reward coming on 22 minutes. Stewart drove at the Ferriby back-line before chipping a brilliant cross to Whitehouse.

Albion maintained control, with Exall making amends for a poor goal kick when denying Whitehouse a second.

After the interval, Jack Vann went close for Tad with a back-post header before Joe Lamplough barged Whitehouse to the ground to concede a penalty. Whitehouse, who had already scored two spot-kicks in pre-season, this time saw his low effort pushed clear by Exall.

Ferriby improved after a host of substitutions but one of them, Josh Walker, saw an effort brilliantly blocked by Jack Vann in their only opportunity to draw level.
