YORK City centre-back Josh Rogerson and midfielder Harry Thompson have joined Pickering Town and Shildon AFC respectively in youth loan deals.

The 18-year-old Rogerson is available to make his debut for Pickering against AFC Mansfield this weekend when they kick off their Evo-Stik League east division campaign.

He has yet to play first-team football at Bootham Crescent, but was a regular in the reserves last season and signed his first professional contract in the summer after graduating from the club's academy.

On the capture of the youngster from City on the month-long deal, Pikes manager Paul Marshall said: "Martin Gray (City manager) was good in pushing that through for us and we appreciate that.

"The loan is for a month but it could go further. We’ll have to wait and see how Josh and York do.

"He can play anywhere along the back line and will provide good cover."

Thompson, 18, has joined Shildon, who play in the Ebac Northern League division one.

A regular in City's reserves last season, he too signed his first pro contract this summer after graduating from the academy.

He featured in City's 2-1 pre-season friendly victory at Shildon last month and also appeared as a substitute in friendlies against Barnsley and Bradford City.
