Meanwhile, Woodhouse Grange climbed back into second after winning at Sessay by 70 runs.

Chris Bilton’s fifth half-century of the campaign and Tom Young's 79 guided the visitors to 216, although the innings ending in chaotic fashion with three run outs.

Harry Stothard (64) continued the good work and his century stand with William Bates (47) secured a couple of points ahead of next week’s relegation tussle against Sessay.

Hosts Driffield Town dug in to deny Yorkshire Academy maximum points, but a third straight defeat leaves them poised just above the relegation places.

Skipper Benjamin Birkhead made 96, but his effort was surpassed by George Hill (107), who helped the visitors post 293-5.

Town opener Alec Drury kept the game alive with an unbeaten century but he kept losing partners.

A fifth successive ten-point haul looked on for the visitors until Mark Goddard (28) dug in with Drury to ensure his side were not bowled out, although they came close, finishing on 221-9.

Finally, there was a dramatic late twist as hosts Castleford survived an almighty scare to beat Acomb by a single wicket.

They were cruising at 98-4, needing only seven more runs for victory, when Liam Hyde (50) was out.

His dismissal shook the home side and a remarkable passage of play produced three wickets for Darcy O’Connor (4-16) and a run out, which reduced them to 100-9.

However, last-wicket pair Eddie Morrison and Amir Ditta eventually secured victory.

Earlier, Connor Hyde (4-19) and David Wainwright (4-35) ensured Acomb struggled, with Darcy O'Connor top-scoring with just 29.
