HEAD coach James Ford insists there will be no York City Knights showboating tomorrow - suggesting any sign of complacency will see players dropped.

The title-chasing Knights go to Llanelli for a Saturday afternoon match with winless whipping boys West Wales Raiders (3pm) - the team on the receiving end of that 144-0 world record hammering at Bootham Crescent in April.

Another big victory is needed for Ford's men to have any chance of overhauling Bradford Bulls at the top of Betfred League One, but Ford says they are not targeting anything other than victory, arguing the points tally "will look after itself" - if they get their performance right.

He also believes the Raiders will field a much stronger line-up and look to make amends for their previous humiliation.

"We've not talked about scorelines," said Ford. "We've just talked about the little things in performances and doing those things as well as we can do - working hard, pushing up, making sure our skills are tidy and our contacts are good.

"That prevents anybody from being complacent - if they don't do those things as well as they can, then they won't play the week after."

Bradford and York are level on points at the top of Betfred League One in the race for the sole automatic promotion place, clear of the chasing pack, but the Bulls are 92 points better off in the for-and-against columns, with six games left.

Ford, though, has reiterated points-difference has not come into his thinking.

"We've got to win the game first and foremost," he reasoned.

"If we're good enough at those little things in a performance that contribute to an outcome, the scoreline will look after itself."

He added: "We're just focusing on West Wales and playing as well as we can, getting the preparation right and making sure we perform as individuals, a unit and a team.

"As we've said, we can't control what Bradford do or what North Wales do (against Bradford on Sunday). We will focus on us and, if we're as good as we can be, there's not much more we can do."

West Wales, rehomed and rebranded this year following their struggles as South Wales Scorpions in recent seasons, have shipped 1,568 points in 20 games, at an average of 78.4 per match.

They have conceded a century on four occasions, and had only 14 players last week as they crashed 86-6 to Hunslet.

However, they only lost 30-22 to Hemel the week before that and held play-off-chasing Workington to 46-6 seven days earlier.

Asked if another ton was likely tomorrow, Ford said: "We certainly aren't going down there expecting that. They will be highly motivated to have a real crack at us after the last time we played them.

"We're going down expecting a much-improved West Wales side. The journey is a factor too and, if they're going to be up for any game, it will be us.

"We need to make sure our preparation is right, the travel is right and our mentality is right - run hard, hit hard, put them in corners, get territory and on the back of that do what we usually do with the ball."
