DAVID Lloyd have been crowned the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League’s division five champions after defeating Rufforth.

The results almost certainly ended their opponents’ promotion dreams in the process too.

Alex Brandom and Lisa Garland were the top scorers just ahead of the team’s most successful pairing of Tony and Fiona White.

A final round 11-1 from Alne's Tom Plowman and Hannah Blackburn inspired a win over Wilberfoss.

Stillington’s high-scoring Tim Madgwick and Jennifer Jones led their team to victory against relegated Cawood, while Rowntree Park overcame Dunnington.

In division one, Poppleton took another step closer to the title after a good win against Wigginton with the Turnbull siblings just beating Ben Walker and Eleanor Bradshaw, as the league’s top two pairs clashed.

York 1 beat their second team with Matt Everatt and Lou Lister unbeaten, while Wetherby Castlegarth prevailed against Fulford with Jamie Perkins and Angela Wood claiming 30 games.

In division two, David Lloyd enjoyed back-to-back victories as David James teamed up for 29 games with Frances Mutter against Heworth and Stela Penciu to win another 27 versus Fulford.

Wigginton will be promoted from division three as club captain Phil Langley and Sue Espiner put in another top performance to help their side secure two more points against Riccall.

Dave Duffy and Louise Marshman won 28 games for York to end Wilberfoss’ promotion bid.

In division four, Poppleton’s loss to Tollerton confirmed their relegation with Josh Hunt and Ed Hope winning 27 games.

Oli Lewis and Charlotte O'Shea's 25 games helped seal the points for Fulford against Copmanthorpe.

York’s Jake Lonsdale and Beth Barker finished with a 12-0 triumph in an otherwise close meeting during their team’s win against Cliffe.

In division six, Wigginton saw off Bishopthorpe, led by unbeaten Dom Wright and Helen Brown.

Fulford's Ben Taylor and Sue Scott won 29 games in their team’s win against relegated Poppleton.

In division seven, Copmanthorpe beat relegated Stillington, while leaders Sutton upon Derwent slipped up against a strong Bubwith side, inspired by Liam Moore and Rachel Wottge who won 27 games.

Rufforth condemned Dunnington to relegation as Dan Russell and Penny Sheard matched the 30 games won by team-mates Jack Benson and Vicky Wrigley, whilst honours ended even between Cliffe and Riccall.

Wigginton clinched promotion from division eight after the biggest win of the week, which also left Tollerton in peril.

Andy Galloway and Yvonne Petruso equalled the 33 games won by their third pair of Ian Tooms and Kerry Rafton.

David Lloyd’s Phil Rigby and Chris Twigge won 28 games, just one more than Jack Hoare and Miranda Stephenson, in their win at relegated Wheldrake.

Lee Brayford and Katy Fowler won 29 games for promoted David Lloyd as they sealed the fate of relegated Poppleton in division nine.

Rufforth overcame Fulford thanks to Martin and Penny Sheard winning their last rubber 11-1.

A battle at the bottom saw Dunnington relegated by Appleton Roebuck, who were inspired by unbeaten Richard Barwick and Julia Campbell.

In division ten, Keith Pearson and Jean White have led New Earswick to one of the promotion places and remain title favourites, having ended Wilberfoss' chances.

York will also be promoted after Jean Jaram and Robin Karfoot won 28 games to match the tally of John Jaram and Georgina Edwards in a victory over Sutton upon Derwent fourths.

A fixture programme decimated by the weather means there is no report on the Fulford Ladies Invitational League this week.
