Jonny Bairstow led a Yorkshire recovery from the loss of three early second-innings wickets on day two against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford.

Yorkshire, leading by 83 on first innings in this Specsavers County Championship match, slipped to 21 for three inside six overs of their second innings before reaching lunch on 154 for four from 25.1 overs, a lead of 237.

Graham Onions struck twice and Jimmy Anderson once as Adam Lyth fell for four, Joe Root for three and Kane Williamson for one.

All three were caught behind - Lyth and Williamson, who tried to pull his bat away, to Onions and Root to Anderson against a back of a length ball which he could not decide whether to play forwards or back to.

Bairstow and opener Harry Brook then shared the first half-century partnership of this match in six overs and converted it into a century stand inside 14.

Both men look in good order, with Bairstow in typically pugnacious mood.

Bairstow reached his fifty off 38 balls with seven fours and Brook shortly afterwards off 60 balls.

Bairstow will begin the afternoon on 77, but Brook fell at the start of the morning’s final over - caught behind down leg off Tom Bailey for 55.
