YORK Acorn 'A' continued their resurgence in Yorkshire Men's League division one with a comfortable 36-4 home win over Skirlaugh 'A'.

After seven consecutive losses, this was a third straight win for the Blue and Golds, with the foundations for it laid in a dominant first-half performance, which brought a 26-0 lead.

Acorn were ahead early on when good approach play by loose-forward Harry Bromwich was capitalised on by captain Daryl North, who crashed over from close range.

Impressive teenage full-back Josh Parker booted the first of his four conversions.

On 10 minutes, quick thinking in a free play deep in the Skirlaugh half saw Bromwich again involved to good effect, when he put in an astute kick which centre Ryan Gallacher gathered to score.

On 16 minutes, Acorn turned on the style when centre Jack Stewart, then Gallacher and then scrum-half Tony Shepherd brilliantly combined to send Parker in under the posts.

Their next score came on 25, when quality passing along the line ended with Parker sending out a long pass to the flanks. Two passes later, Stewart was over.

Acorn crossed again on the half-hour, this time through Shepherd from Gallacher's pass, after more impressive centre play by the latter.

Skirlaugh started the second half well when centre Callum King crashed over.

But Acorn responded almost immediately, when stand-off Tim Elliott produced the killer pass to send winger Callum McDarby in.

Acorn's only other score came on the back of strong running from impressive teenage forward Alex Hardcastle and winger Tom Matthews.

Bromwich scored it as his angled run left defenders grabbing fresh air.

In division three, York Lokomotive fell 44-18 at home to Scarborough Pirates, while in division four last midweek, Sherburn Bears lost 22-10 to Crofton Sports.
