INTERESTING situations exist at the top of both divisions of the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League after the latest round of fixtures.

Sessay still lead the first division but have played a game more than Clifton Alliance and Sheriff Hutton Bridge who both recorded victories and are only two points behind.

In the second division, Crayke ended Thirsk’s 100 per cent record and Sheriff Hutton now trail the leaders by only one point with Raskelf also within touching distance.

Top hosted bottom at Sessay when Easingwold made the short trip up the A19 - coming close to upsetting the league leaders.

When Sessay replied, they suffered two early run-outs, before Matthew Wass (21) was caught off the bowling of Tommy

Langstaff to leave them on 44-3. Langstaff and A Cadd bowled tidily and Sessay found themselves needing 33 from the last four overs, but Mark Jackson’s 32 not out saw them home with four balls to spare - after they had been fortunate to be aided by penalty runs for the ball hitting a discarded fielding helmet.

Clifton Alliance kept up their challenge in division one with a seven-wicket win at Helperby.

Dan Marston (33), Luke Fletcher (30) and Dan Spink (26) helped Helperby to 119-5, but Scott Hopkinson (57) and Nick Hindle (30) were to the fore in a winning response, despite L Holmes' 2-34.

The prolific Dulash Udayanga top-scored with 64 and Connor Campbell made 32 as Sheriff Hutton Bridge posted 143-3 at home to Newburgh.

Tommy Banks claimed 2-24 and his brother James led the Newburgh reply with 55, Lewis Medley adding 24, but the in-form Ben Harrison (3-20) and Tom Willson (2-14) took vital wickets and the visitors closed on 117-6.

Division two leaders Thirsk were beaten for the first time this term at home to Crayke.

Josh Howes, with 35 not out, and Dan Orchard (35) helped them to 113-3, Dave Allitt taking 2-32 for Crayke.

Ian Pears (35) led the reply and, although James Wilkinson took 3-31, the visitors claimed a heartening victory at 114-5.

Sheriff Hutton closed the gap tot the top with a nine-wicket victory over Rowntrees & Huntington.

John Dowd (32) and Josh de Silva (34) saw R&H to 104-7 in the face of commendable bowling by Joe Schofield (3-19) and Ian Bews (4-23).

Richard Reynolds (45) and Matthew Maltby (38no) took Sheriff to a comfortable 105-1.

Raskelf stayed in touch with the leaders after beating Alne.

Alec Snowball (43) and Sam Porter (50 retired) saw them reach 141-4, despite Fran Raper's 3-21.

Ryan Beaumont made 23 when Alne replied, but victory for the visitors was never on the cards and they closed on 85-4, Lindon Giuffrida taking 2-25.
