YORKSHIRE secured a record-breaking Royal London One-day Cup win over Lancashire by 16 runs with an over to spare at Emirates Old Trafford to maintain their hopes of knockout qualification.

Adam Lyth and David Willey both smashed centuries as the Vikings posted 379-7, their highest ever List A score against another county.

Opener Lyth recorded a career best 144 off 132 balls and Willey 131 off 95 from number three in the order, including seven of nine sixes in the innings.

Lancashire then raced to 144-1 inside 18 overs of their reply and reached halfway at 215-2 before slipping to 363 all out in the face of scoreboard pressure, although they took the target to 21 off two overs with two wickets left.

Liam Livingstone and Keaton Jennings hit 79 and 69, but they realistically needed to match Lyth and Willey. Adil Rashid finished with 3-64 from his 10 overs and Willey 4-59 from 9.5.

Yorkshire have now moved to nine points from seven matches and are inside the all-important top three places in the North Group.

If they win Thursday’s last group clash with Northants at Emerald Headingley, when Joe Root is available for selection ahead of England’s ODI series with Australia, they will qualify for knockouts later this month.

Lyth and Willey shared 235 inside 33 overs to advance from 12-1 after the visitors had elected to bat.

It was Yorkshire’s highest ever second-wicket stand, the highest for any wicket by either side in Roses List A cricket and Yorkshire’s third highest partnership ever.

Lancashire started well with the ball, removing Tom Kohler-Cadmore for a duck and forcing Willey to wait 12 balls until he got off the mark.

But then it went downhill for them. They dropped a handful of catches.

Lyth offered leg-side sitters to Josh Bohannon twice and Jordan Clark on 117, 127 and 136, while their ground fielding was also poor.

Willey was particularly brutal down the ground, while one of his sixes was slog swept off Bohannon’s medium pace three quarters of the way up their huge temporary stand at the Stretford side of the ground.

Willey reached his century off 79 balls in the 31st over and Lyth’s second in three matches came off 105 balls four overs later, by which time Yorkshire had reached 231-1.

England Test opener Jennings and Lions batsman Livingstone then shared 124 for the second wicket after Matthew Fisher’s early wicket of Alex Davies as the Vikings were put on the back foot.

Livingstone reached 50 off 33 balls before skying Liam Plunkett to Fisher running backwards from mid-on for 79, leaving the score at 144-2 in the 18th.

Jennings reached a more measured half-century shortly afterwards, just two days after playing in the Headingley Test win against Pakistan.

When he fell, caught at deep mid-wicket off Steve Patterson for 69, it was the first of three quick wickets as Rashid had Dane Vilas (47) caught at short fine-leg sweeping and Rob Jones stumped as the score fell to 238-5 after 31 overs.

Willey yorked Haseeb Hameed and Rashid had Bohannon caught and bowled as Lancashire slipped to 293-7 in the 41st over.

All-rounder Clark then miscued Willey to mid-off in the 43rd as the score slipped to 302-8. But Tom Bailey and Stephen Parry shared 57 for the ninth wicket before Willey got them both in the penultimate over.
