SHERIFF Hutton Bridge fell out of the Rudgate Brewery Yorkshire Leagues’ Knockout Cup in a high-scoring encounter at Shaw Lane against Barnsley Woolley Miners.

The hosts, of the Yorkshire South Premier League, posted an impressive 254-6 from their 40 overs, with the Yorkshire Premier League North high-fliers being bowled out 15 runs short of their target.

Harpeet Singh Bhatia top scored with 72 and Beck Frostick (57no) scored an unbeaten half-century in the South Yorkshire hosts's excellent first innings.

Dulash Udayanga replied with 89 for the visitors but he eventually succumbed to left-arm spinner Ali Jahangir, who finished with 6-27 - including four wickets in the closing stages when it looked as though Adam Fisher (57no) might be guiding his side to a notable round two victory before he ran out of partners.

The other tie with Yorkshire Premier League North interest saw Yorkshire Academy get the better of Driffield Town for the second time in two days - following up Saturday's victory in the league with a 33-run success in the cup.

A half-century at the top of the order from Harry Brook (56) provided the prefect start for the Academy but the home side chipped away through Kavindu Kulasekara (3-27) and Nick Hardgrave (4-30) until the visitors were eventually all out for 214.

That total included 35 from skipper Benjamin Birkhead and the young wicketkeeper was in early action in the reply with two catches, the first of which set Matthew Taylor (5-23) on the way to a five-wicket haul.

Grant Halder scored a half-century and Nick Hardgrave followed up his efforts with the ball by making 48 but they were two of only three batsmen to reach double figures as Driffield were dismissed for 181.

Yorkshire Academy face a trip to either Appleby Frodingham or Stamford Bridge in the quarter-finals.
