THE weather took its toll on the fixtures in Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League Division One with insufficient play possible for any of the sides to force a positive result.

Norwood Park witnessed the most play Will Parker scoring 90 for Beverley Town as they reached 181-9 at home to Dringhouses. There were three wickets each for Andrew Simpson (3-33) and Michael Kenyon (3-28) in an innings which also included 44 from Tom Spence.

In addition to his effort with the ball Simpson also made 38 before the weather intervened with the visitors on 81-3.

A second-wicket stand of 158 between Kevin Murphy (72) and Ashton Nottingham (94) had given Goole Town the advantage over Pocklington but the visitors were denied the chance to make anything of it as play was called off, the total having moved on to 193-2.

Carlton Towers were another side left ruing the weather when half-centuries from a quartet of batsmen came to nothing.

Despite being at opposite ends of the table hosts Sewerby would likely have had their work cut out chasing a target of 293-5, but in the end they didn’t get the opportunity.

At least the day had provided time at the crease for Henry Bayston (55), Matthew Tom (63), Robert Holah (57no) and Mark Holmes (69) all of whom will need to feature again if the side is to avoid an immediate return to Division Two.

Elsewhere, Harrogate made 158-6 against Sheriff Hutton Bridge and no play was possible in the game between Heworth and Ripon at Elm Park Way.

Finally spare a thought for the players from Knaresborough whose travelling time to and from Hornsea lasted more than twice the length of the game.

Only 25 overs were possible at the Recreation Ground, in which time the home side reached 135-4, before the visitors made the long journey home.
