MATTHEW Fisher hit 24 not out off eight balls and was the hero as Yorkshire chased 190 in 24 overs to beat Derbyshire in a thriller and give their Royal London one-day Cup hopes a significant boost in a rain-affected clash at the 3aaa County Ground.

The Vikings survived early pressure as David Willey claimed 4-47 from four overs on his return from the IPL duty, while Tim Bresnan was excellent for 1-19 from four after rain delayed play until 3.15pm.

Ben Slater hit 109 not out off 82 balls for the Falcons, who were 52-0 after five overs and finished with 189-6.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s fourth 50 plus score in five innings then led the visiting response, but they slipped from 132-3 in the 18th over to 135-6 after 19, with Kohler-Cadmore then falling for 81 in the penultimate over.

But Sheriff Hutton Bridge youngster Fisher starred to achieve 24 off two overs and 10 off the last from Hardus Viljeon, with the win secured by two wickets with a ball to spare.

Former West Indies fast bowler Ravi Rampaul took a career best 5-48.

Yorkshire have now won three from six North Group matches ahead of their last two matches next week.

Willey, Fisher and Steve Patterson erred early on. Willey’s first over, the second of the match, included four boundaries.

Adil Rashid (1-33 from five) and Liam Plunkett dragged things back after the power play as the former removed Billy Godleman caught at deep mid-wicket.

Wayne Madsen threatened to get things moving as he benefited from a rare dropped catch from Adam Lyth at wide long-off on eight off Rashid.

Slater reached a 39-ball fifty as they passed 100 in the 13th over. But Madsen (20) fell in the same over to impressive Bresnan.

With 10 overs left, they were 109-2 and 147-2 with six left when Luis Reece retired hurt with a suspected broken ankle.

Willey returned impressively in the 20th over to bowl Gary Wilson and get Matt Critchley caught behind down leg with successive deliveries, making it 157-4.

Slater reached his 77-ball century in the 23rd, by which time Willey had claimed his third when Alex Hughes holed out to deep mid-wicket.

His fourth came at the start of the last over when Daryn Smit miscued to cover, marking his best bowling performance for Yorkshire.

Kohler-Cadmore played out a maiden from part-time off-spinner Madsen to start the chase, but he and Lyth shared four sixes in five balls from South African quick Duanne Olivier and Madsen in the next two.

Lyth fell at the end of the fifth over to Rampaul and Willey midway through the sixth to Olivier, both offering miscued leg-side catches (43-2).

Yorkshire reached 10 overs at 79-3, needing 111 more, by which time they had lost Che Pujara lbw to Critchley’s leg-spin.

Gary Ballance joined Kohler-Cadmore and took the target to 85 off the last 10 at 105-3 after 14. Kohler-Cadmore reached his latest fifty off 41 balls in the next over.

They shared 61 for the fourth wicket before Ballance (27) was bowled trying to scoop Olivier to leg – 132-4 in the 18th.

When Bresnan and Jonny Tattersall fell in the next, caught behind and lbw off Rampaul, the score went to 135-6 and swung back Derbyshire’s way.

Rampaul had Kohler-Cadmore caught at deep mid-wicket in the penultimate over, making it 166-8, before Fisher hit a six and later successive fours to finish things.
