YORK have taken over the leadership of the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League by the slenderest of margins with a superior goal difference of just one.

Wigginton’s eldest Bradshaw sister Eleanor partnered Ben Walker to win 30 games and ensure victory by two games at Wetherby Castlegarth.

Matt Everatt and Jill Le Pla won 29 games for York to record their first win.

David Lloyd top division two, opening with a win against Bubwith, secured by the unbeaten David Jones and Frances Mutter, then Andy Holmes and Stela Penku remained undefeated to take the victory against a strong Sherburn side.

Previously, Sherburn crushed Dunnington, led by Tristan Gretton and Rachel Huggins as they dropped just two games and were supported by Phil Bremner and Helen Haywood, who won 33.

Govind Baker and Jo Middleton clinched 30 games for Fulford as they beat Bubwith.

Despite the best efforts of Tollerton's unbeatable Josh Hunt and Helen McDonald, David Lloyd grabbed the points in division four to lead the table by a games difference of just three.

Wetherby Castlegarth moved into second after they met Cliffe, coming up against unbeaten Joel Hancox and Jane Pemberton.

Johnny Kay and Amanda Robson ensured that Copmanthorpe started off with a win, remaining unbeaten all night.

Rufforth's Andy Ivel and Sarah Skidmore claimed 32 games as their team top division five just ahead of Wilberfoss.

John Latham and Caz Makender helped Wilberfoss to another win after visiting Stillington.

Dunnington lead division seven with the high-scoring duo of Dave Scott and Claudine Shaw winning 31 games as they prevailed against Stillington.

In second are Copmanthorpe after they beat visitors Rufforth, led by Rob Abbott and Lynn Kent, who won all three rubbers.

Only Bishopthorpe are undefeated in division eight with an 11-1 opening win by top-scorers’ Tim Mandle and Julia Sykes seeing off Wistow in an otherwise close match.

Tollerton bounced back to open their account with a win against Wilberfoss, who could find no way past Mike Burbridge and Jennifer Hunt, who won 32 games.

The new pairing of Paul Dadvar and Pauline Belt, who won 31 games, ensured Appleton Roebuck overcame David Lloyd.

Top scorers of the week were Graham Cook and Carolyn Taylor who won 35 games for Fulford against Poppleton as their side moved into second place in division nine.

Rufforth top the table, led by Charlie and Vicky Wrigley, who amassed 28 games in their win against Appleton Roebuck and were well supported by Nick Edmond and Lesley Sinton during her triumphant return to the courts after a lengthy absence.

The third member of the Screeton family Mark, partnered by Sarah Colmer, helped Wilberfoss to another win as they hit the division ten summit, just outscoring Dave Pashby and Karen Pratt.

New Earswick enjoyed a big win against visitors York, led by top scorers Keith Pearson and Theresa Hardy.
