YORK Croquet Club are inviting spectators to the lawns tomorrow to watch some of Yorkshire's top croquet teams
in action.
Play from the Yorkshire Federation Short Lawn Tournament will be held from 10am to 4pm at the club's headquarters on Scarcroft Road. Admission is free.
York are entering two teams, nicknamed after the local chocolate brands Yorkies and Smarties, who will be facing the likes of Pickering, Beverley and Huddersfield.
John Harris, the Smarties captain, said: “York is reckoned to have the best croquet lawns within the three Ridings.
“It will be a pleasure to welcome the other teams to the Yorkshire capital for what promises to be a close-fought day.
“Croquet is an absorbing strategic game, perfect for a warm summer’s day. It can be played by anyone on equal terms regardless of gender or age."
