HARROGATE Town clinched promotion to the Vanarama National League for the first time in front of 3,000 jubilant fans at the CNG Stadium, yesterday

They defeated Brackley Town 3-0 in the National League North play-off final to crown a season which saw them finish runners up to Salford City.

They overcame the early loss of striker Mark Beck to injury to see off the challenge of the FA Trophy finalists.

Dominic Knowles gave them the lead after 25 minutes from the penalty spot.

Harrogate made it 2-0 before the break when Brackley failed to deal with Joe Leesley`s free-kick and the ball fell kindly to Knowles, who netted his ninth goal in his last three games.

Brackley had their chances but it was Harrogate who scored again after 71 minutes when Ryan Fallowfield’s cross found Leesley, who made no mistake.

Harrogate’s decision to go full-time this season has certainly paid dividends and they will now look forward to competing in the top tier of English non-league football next season.
