YORK Acorn boss Leigh Paul-Rientoul has said his players need to start listening better on the field as they look for their first away win of the campaign.

The Blue and Golds coach also insisted the side’s record on their travels so far in this Kingstone Press National Conference League division one campaign – two defeats from two – is nothing more than coincidence.

On Saturday, they travel to Skirlaugh who enjoyed a 44-24 win at Shaw Cross Sharks last weekend while Acorn lost 20-8 at Thornhill Trojans.

Paul-Rientoul said: “We seem to be struggling away, so hopefully we can get our first win on Saturday.

“It’s just the way it’s happened – our preparation has been as good for away games as home.

“We were unlucky Saturday. The game was close at points, then we just sort of let them in for easy tries in the second half.

“I think we’ll get there this week. They’re going into this week’s game on the back of a big win but hopefully we’ll go there and do the business.

“The players just need to focus on their own role, working together and listening to leaders on the field. There are too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

“It’s my job and my coaching staff’s job to focus on the player who aren’t doing their job, not the other players.”

Callum Worthington and Darryl North could return to the side.

New Earswick All Blacks do not have a fixture in Yorkshire Men’s League premier this weekend as scheduled opponents Norland Sharks have withdrawn from the league.

York Lokomotive – who last week won their second piece of silverware in two weeks – open their division three campaign on Saturday at table-toppers Brighouse Rangers.
