NEWLY-CROWNED York Minster Engineering League champions Wigginton Grasshoppers rounded off their premier division campaign with an 8-1 thrashing of Church Fenton.

All did not go according to plan in an even first half, with Liam McEntee racing onto a loose ball to slot home for Church Fenton and stun the table-toppers with 11 minutes gone.

The away team had also held second-placed Old Malton St Mary’s to a draw in midweek, a result which handed Hoppers the title, so they were not expected to be easy-beats.

However, within 10 minutes, Wiggy were level with Jamie Willstrop drilling a low shot into the bottom corner and, while no more goals followed in the first half despite chances at both ends, the second period was a very different affair.

Grasshoppers assumed control as goals from Gary Newton and Matt Tiplady put them 3-1 up before the hour, and Tiplady got a second before substitute Harry Clapham bagged a stunning seven-minute hat-trick.

The scoring was completed with a neat finish from Kain Rogerson.

Old Malton, who had failed to score in their previous two outings, had no such problems against Copmanthorpe, winning 10-0.

Huntington Rovers kept up their quest for third place, defeating Dunnington 5-2.

Finlay Burbidge and James Edmond (2) put Rovers 3-0 up by half-time before the visitors pulled two back early in the second period.

Rovers got their second wind and Edmond completed his hat-trick before Tom Metcalfe sealed victory with a clinical strike.

A Sam Ripley-Kitson free-kick and a Matty Mulhearn strike saw Dringhouses beat Sporting Knavesmire 2-0.

Knavesmire remain a point clear of the second relegation spot, though current occupants Malton & Norton have two games in hand. Both teams, as well as Copmanthorpe and Poppleton United who are not out of danger, are in action tonight.

Osbaldwick and Hemingbrough United played out an eight-goal thriller with the Selby side triumphing 5-3.

Guy May, Craig Rowden (2), Nathan Parker and Dan Thompson bagged for Hemingbrough with Dan Davison, Danny Penrose and Lucas Wilson on target for Osso.

Kirkbymoorside made sure of third place in division one with a 1-0 defeat of fourth-placed Rawcliffe, who could not find a way past the visitors' in-form keeper.

Pocklington Town, already assured of second place, defeated Riccall United 1-0.

Goals from Jason Hogg and Adam Osguthorpe earned Harrison Signs a 2-2 draw at Easingwold Town.

The Raj may have condemned Moor Lane to relegation from division three after beating them 1-0.

Moor Lane must now hope Fulford lose their last game of the season against promotion-seeking Rufforth by three goals or more to go above them on goal-difference.

In division four, Ben Bailey and Chris Versey gave bottom side Wheldrake a 3-2 home win over Swinton.

Huntington Rovers continued their pursuit of the reserve 'A' crown with a 7-2 success over Malton & Norton.

Lee Bunce hit a hat-trick with Ashley Hill (2), Nicke Rakocevic and Paul Scaife also on target. Connor Pickering and Matthew Reeves replied.

Old Malton St Mary's got the better of their double-header with Pocklington Town, winning the first game 3-1 and drawing the second 1-1.

Simon Castle, Ben Small and Robert Rubira fired Dunnington to a 3-1 triumph at Copmanthorpe. Duncan Urquhart replied.

Ryan Ferguson hit a hat-trick as Tadcaster Magnets escaped relegation from reserve 'B' by beating Heworth 7-0.

The result condemned Harrison Signs to reserve 'C' football next season. Will Deakin, Jack Barber and Ben Wilson (2) netted Magnets' other goals.

Nial Kirby (2) and Joshua Molesworth struck in Poppleton's 3-3 draw with F1 Racing.

Reserve 'C' champions Wilberfoss finished their season with a 6-3 win at York RI. Carl Womersley (2), Joseph Drydal (2), Dave Laverack and James Bibby struck for 'Foss with Lewis Chipchase (2) and Michael Martin responding.

Harley Copley (2), Luigi Foschi, Ryan Glover and Connor O'Brien netted in Malt Shovel's 5-1 win over Fulford, while Wheldrake fell 3-1 at Civil Service.
