NEIL Wood claimed the York Conservative Snooker League’s highest break of the season with an 80 in Heworth 'A’s 4-3 triumph over champions Fulford 'A'.

In his team’s final game of the season, Wood beat the campaign’s previous highest break of 70, also set by him, during a victory over Dave Sattaur.

Other wins for Heworth came from John Dowd against Sam Parkinson, Craig Pullan versus Tom Lewis and Gary Douglas over Dave Reed.

Douglas was subsequently crowned Player of the Season, having won 12 of the 15 games he played.

His nearest rival was Paul Mahoney, who won the same number of frames, but played a game more.

Wins for Fulford’s Cameron Fennell (v Kevin Gall), Sam England (v James Kilmartin and Russ Shaw (v Steve Burdett) made for a tight match between the two teams who will now meet this week in the Team Knockout semi-finals.

Acomb 'A' moved into second spot in the league as they beat their 'B' team 5-2.

Richard Lillie made a 31 break as he defeated the 'B' team’s Brian Henry, only for Nick Goodacre to enjoy a black-ball victory against Paul Holmes to level the match.

Victories for 'A' team pair Keith Thornhill and Nick Marchant over Andy Wade and Andy Stone respectively made the score 3-1.

But another black-ball decider for Kevin Ventress over Trevor Ventress reduced the deficit again.

It was only when Phil Carlton (v Jon Milner) and Mick Borg (v Jeff Winter) won the last two frames that the game was put to bed.

Malton finished off their season with a 4-3 win over a five-man Bootham 'A' side.

The defeated team still had wins from Nathan Brown, Colin Robinson (25 break) and Barry Rankin to celebrate, but replies from Dominic Spiteri and Steve Beal, along with two walkovers, proved decisive.

Fulford 'B' defeated Heworth 'B' 4-3 with the latter also paying the price for being a man short.

The winners for Fulford were Aaron Spiers, Mo Mohamed and Phil Cooke.

Heworth responded through S Kelsey, Andi Ireland and Andy Hurley, who had breaks of 27 and 24.

The Team Knockout final and presentation night will be staged at Bootham on Wednesday, May 2, starting at 7.30pm.
