THE much-anticipated top-of-the-table clash in the York Minster Engineering League premier division proved to be a nervy affair with Wigginton Grasshoppers and Old Malton St Mary's playing out a goalless draw - leaving the destiny of the title in the Hoppers' hands.

Wigginton's Jordan Holt did head the ball home in the first half but the goal was ruled out for an infringement and otherwise chances were few and far between in a cautious performance from both teams.

The result probably suits Wiggy more - it means St Mary's must now win their five remaining matches and hope the Grasshoppers slip up at home to mid-table Church Fenton in their final league game on Saturday.

At the other end of the table, things are beginning to get a little desperate for Malton & Norton, who were sunk 2-1 by Hemingbrough United despite leading at the break through a Scott Preston effort.

Substitute Jamie Wheeler hit a brace to win the game for the hosts.

Malton & Norton now lie a point adrift of Sporting Knavesmire, who let a two-goal lead slip at Dringhouses but managed to hold on for a crucial 2-2 draw.

Tom Kite and James Windle struck for Knavesmire with Chris Banks and Matty Mulhearn levelling for Houses.

Huntington Rovers gained revenge from Monday night's game against Copmanthorpe with a 3-1 defeat of the visitors.

Charlie Ward put Rovers ahead before Tom Metcalfe doubled the advantage from the spot after Ward had been felled in the area.

Cop pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time through Ellis Stephenson, with Chris Dyson scoring his obligatory goal to seal the points in the second period.

F1 Racing started brightly against Tadcaster Magnets and Chris Dempsey soon put them ahead following good work from Dan Hickey.

Taddy grew into the game and equalised on the half-hour only to see F1 restore their advantage via an Alex martin spot-kick.

An even second half saw Magnets score twice to go into the lead with 15 minutes to go, but Liam King popped up with a trademark late finish to seal a 3-3 draw and snatch a much-deserved point for F1.

Ryan Feguson (2) and Will Deakin bagged the goals for the away team.

Thorpe United ensured they will return to the top flight in style, a 2-0 victory over closest pursuers Pocklington Town confirming their status as division one champions.

Thorpe have lost only one of their 20 league games this season and sit 11 points clear of Pock, who have three games still to play.

Third-placed Kirkbymoorside maintained their promotion hopes with a 9-3 win over Riccall United.

The visitors took the lead on seven minutes through an excellent volley only to see Kirkby go down the other end and equalise through Ollie Varey.

Ten minutes later, the hosts moved ahead, Paul Hodgson chipping into an empty net after some good team play.

Riccall's keeper then departed injured and, shortly after, Joe Harland controlled a misplaced goal kick and volleyed the ball into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.

A well-taken hat-trick from Jonny Brown then followed before Riccall scored two quick goals to reduce the deficit.

The second half was largely controlled by the home side with Keelan Simpson showing his quality by hitting an excellent brace, before Dan Ward rounded off the scoring late on.

Tockwith notched an upset over promotion-chasing Rawcliffe, winning by the only goal of the game.

Goals from Tom Rushworth and Oliver Longbottom saw Easingwold Town win 2-1 against Harrison Signs, for whom James Allerton struck.

The only game in division two saw Civil Service win 2-1 at Barmby Moor.

An own goal put Service ahead at half-time with Sam Hardcastle doubling their advantage after the break. Curtis Barker replied for the home side.
