YORK Acorn bounced back to winning ways with a 34-12 home win over a determined Shaw Cross Sharks side in National Conference League Division One.

As a spectacle it wasn't the greatest of games especially in the second half, when Acorn were guilty of forcing too many passes and not sticking to their structured game plan that had served them so well in the opening half hour of this game.

Acorn totally dominated the first 30 minutes of this contest, when they scored virtually a point a minute, starting on five minutes when scrum half Joe Budd combined with prop and Tom Hill, before receiving a return pass from the latter and racing over under the posts for a try which Anthony Chilton added the conversion.

On 17 minutes Acorn stretched their lead to 12-0 when Budd found second rower Matty Downes in a huge hole and Downes duly obliged by racing in from 20 metres for another Chilton converted try.

Acorn were on a roll now and on 20 minutes quality passing along their three quarters ended with full-back Matthew Chilton putting centre Jordan Potter over for a try once again converted successfully by Chilton.

Acorn surged further ahead on 24 minutes when winger Josh Thompson managed to get on the end of a passing sequence and squeeze in at the corner for an unconverted try to put the blue and golds 22-0 in front.

At this moment Acorn seem to just get carried away with how easy it appeared to be and they were made to pay when on 29 minutes their acting half Matthew Tebb went over from close range and full-back Danny Flowers added the extras to put the visitors on the scoreboard at 22-6 down.

Soon afterwards Shaw Cross Sharks further reduced the deficit, when their centre Brandan French exposed a weakness on Acorn's left edge defence to finish off a quick fire attack.

Flowers added the extras to put the visitors only 10 points adrift at 22-12 down at half time.

With former York player and Shaw Cross player-coach Paul March pulling the strings, Acorn knew they had to reassert themselves after the restart and fortunately they notched the opening try of the second half when, on 46 minutes, substitute second rower Luke Swales managed to fly hack the ball towards the Shaw Cross try-line before diving on the loose ball to score a try which Chilton added the conversion to.

For long periods of the second half the game was dominated by the tackling of both defences and for Acorn - they were well served by Reece Rushworth in the back row, hooker James Mountford and Hill in the forward exchanges.

The game's final score came on 78 minutes, when good approach play from 40 meters out by initially Gallacher then Chilton M ended with Joe Budd crossing for a try goaled by Chilton.
