CHAMPIONS Topspin York rotated their squad and had to settle for a 5-5 draw against York RI C in the first division of the York & District Table Tennis League.

Martin Lowe and Joel Wright were on top form as Coneysthorpe A cruised to an 8-2 victory over Clarence A, and a treble from Filip Wojtkowiak was the highlight as York RI A edged a close encounter with their B team 6-4.

In the second division, Strensall A avoided relegation as Dave Quinlan and Mike Robinson steered them to a 9-1 victory over rivals York RI F.

Poppleton look destined for the third division after they slumped to a 9-1 defeat against York RI E with Ady McLaren and Lewis Harrison unbeaten.

Ryedale@RI had Stephen Temple to thank as they recorded a fine 6-4 victory over Shepherds A, which should guarantee their second tier status for next season.

Shepherds A bounced back the following evening with Keith Webster rolling back the years in an 8-2 demolition of a lethargic Strensall A.

Ben Lockyer starred as York RI D clinched the promotion play-off slot with a 7-3 triumph over Bootham A, while Clarence C beat Bootham B 6-4 with Graham Hatfield contributing a maximum.

In the third division, Wigginton & Haxby A remain in control after a 6-4 victory over second-placed Clarence CIU A.

Clarence’s Gary Bunce was man-of-the-match, remaining unbeaten on the night.

A treble from Adam Exley proved decisive as Clarence F secured a key 6-4 victory over relegation rivals Clarence E, and York RI G kept their promotion hopes alive for another week as maximums from Peter Smalley and Paul Greenwood helped them to a 7-3 victory over BT A.

Three wins from Arthur Sorley made the difference as York RI H defeated South Bank A 6-4, while Mick Surtees was unbeaten as Shepherds B picked up an excellent 6-4 victory over Strensall B.

In division four, South Bank B need a single point to clinch promotion after they prevailed 6-4 against a dogged York RI I. Dom McHugh and Adrian Church recorded braces for South Bank while Dom Horsley responded in kind for Railway.

Mark Hodgson was untroubled as Wigginton & Haxby B crushed Shepherds C 8-2, while their C team registered a 6-4 victory over a depleted Clarence CIU C.
