YORK College women’s basketball team have reached the final of the AoC Sports National Championships for the first time in the college’s history.

Having already been crowned the Yorkshire and Humberside regional champions, the team will now go up against teams from all other regions of the country this weekend at the Wildcats Arena in Nottingham.

Three years ago, the Sim Balk Lane students had success at the same National Championships with the men’s basketball team and, in 2017, the college also won medals in badminton and tennis.

The current women's basketball team is predominantly made up of Norwegian students studying at the college this year and coach Dave Smith has high hopes, saying: “We have a great team, with each member demonstrating dedication and a determination to succeed.

"It’s a hugely impressive feat for them to have reached the national finals and I am proud to see their weeks of training paying off. Their competitive spirit is infectious and I hope it pays dividends at the most important tournament of the year!”
