YORK Lokomotive are “chomping at the bit” to take to the field on Saturday where they will face New Earswick All Blacks in the final of the inaugural North Yorkshire Invitation Cup.

It is the third game of the campaign for both teams, with All Blacks coming into it off the back of a 10-8 win over Scarborough Pirates while Lokos saw off Selby Warriors 34-26 for a shot at the club’s first piece of silverware.

The final will be held at Knaresborough Rugby Club on Saturday, April 21 with a 2.30pm kick off.

Club secretary and player Tom Dunmore said: “We always have tough battles with New Earswick.

“Everyone’s chomping at the bit to get one of the 17 shirts on. We’re really excited.

“It’s only the third final the team’s played in its 10 years of existence, so we really want to take the prize at the end.

“We’ve had some good finishes these last few years but just struggled to get over the line. Hopefully we can this time with a good start to the season.

“But it’s not the be all and end all – it’s the performance we’re looking at. We’ll be gutted if we lose, but it’s not the end of the world.”

Event organiser and Lokos press officer Chris Corr said: “This debut year has been really exciting with some tough games in some terrible weather conditions.

“We are so lucky that Knaresborough Rugby Club has come to our aid and helped us out with a quality facility.

“We welcome all rugby fans to come and enjoy a game of North Yorkshire rugby league.”
