EMMA BALLANTYNE broke her own City of York Athletic Club record when securing a top-10 finish in the Asics Greater Manchester Marathon.

Ballantyne was the ninth women home after completing the 26.2-mile course in an even-paced two hours 51 minutes 39 seconds.

Her previous club record of 2-55-01 was set at the MBNA Chester Marathon in 2016.

Wesley Possible was City of York’s leading male finisher, clocking 3-18-55.

Also on the roads, Finnian Hutchinson won his first county title after many previous attempts.

Hutchinson took the under-15 boys’ honours in the Yorkshire Road Running Championships at the Brownlee Centre at North Leeds.

He covered the two-mile course in 10-13 to win by eight seconds ahead of Wharfedale’s Sam Smith.

Meanwhile, Angus McMillan helped England to a team silver medal at the ISF World Schools Cross Country Championships in Paris.

The City of York runner finished 17th in the boys’ race and was the fourth English athlete home, completing the 5.5km course around the Eiffel Tower in 16-52.
