HAXBY United are now champions of York Minster Engineering League division two, despite not kicking a ball over the weekend.

Heworth's failure to defeat Civil Service - they drew 3-3 - means the Ethel Ward side cannot be caught at the top and they return to division one after a couple of seasons in the lower tier.

Heworth took the lead in their match through Dan Marshall after just two minutes but Civil Service's reliable marksman, Declan Richardson, levelled matters shortly afterwards. Tom Hardcastle then put the visitors ahead just before the break with Richardson making it 3-1 after the restart.

Lee Jacobs bagged his first goal for Heworth, before Marshall netted a penalty to at least earn his side a point.

Second-placed Strensall had mathematical chances of catching Haxby - albeit needing to overturn a massive goal-difference deficit - but even those negligible hopes ended as they too were held to a 3-3 draw, by Stamford Bridge.

Adam Stelmach, Gareth Hirst and Charlie Coupland got Strensall's goals.

Malt Shovel and Cawood both registered wins to keep the division three title race alive with just a handful of games left.

Jack Morris, Joe Curtis, Jamie Brace and Luke Pearse (2) fired Malt Shovel to a 5-2 success over Moor Lane, for whom Chris McLuskie and Mariusz Bratkowski replied.

Cawood got the better of a seven-goal thriller at Rufforth. Liam Keenaghan (2) and Danny Cates netted for the home side but Jean Pierre Grenier, Denton Snowden and Matthew Ward (2) ensured the points went Cawood's way.

Joey Carter and Tom Wordsworth scored for Fulford to secure a 2-2 draw with Selby Olympia.

Meanwhile, Pollington were celebrating after securing promotion from division four with a 5-2 win at Huntington FC.

Bryan Robertson and Liam Deller bagged braces with Stuart Harrison firing the visitors' fifth in the only game to take place in the fifth tier.
