WHELDRAKE driving ace Will Dyrdal made a solid start to his first season in the Ginetta GT5 Cup.
Having been marked by race day commentators at Oulton Park as “one to watch”, Dyrdal, 17, making the step up to the rear-wheel drive from the Junior Saloon Car Championships, finished 25th and 20th respectively in the first two races, out of a total of 31 drivers.
Bad luck and a couple of knocks affected those final positions but sponsor Kevin Blount, of Howard & Byrne Solicitors, said the teenager demonstrated his potential in the face of fierce competition from seasoned drivers and appalling wet weather that resulted in the cancellation of the last of the day’s races.
Blount said: “We are delighted with the start Will has made. He is showing real promise and we are proud to be supporting him.”
