TADCASTER Albion played out a 0-0 midweek draw at home to North Yorkshire rivals and Evo-Stik League division one north high-fliers Scarborough Athletic.

The result leaves the Seadogs in third spot, but now seven points off leaders South Shields, while Taddy dropped to eighth after Colwyn Bay’s 3-0 victory over Prescot Cables.

In the end it was a tale of two outstanding saves in a fierce contest, with Michael Ingham denying former York City team-mate Michael Coulson from point-blank range in the first half and Tommy Taylor parrying Chris Howarth’s header late on.

Brewers bosses Michael Morton and Simon Collins made one change to the team that thumped Bamber Bridge 5-0 as Will Annan - the scorer of two goals - came in for his first start in Casey Stewart's stead.

And the loanee winger was in the action early after Aiden Savory had cleverly used his body to hold off a Boro defender and teed up Annan who dragged his shot narrowly wide from outside the area.

With four minutes gone, the visitors had a good chance to take the lead as Sam Hewitt powered a header off the right-hand upright from Tom White's curling free kick.

In an even contest with few clear-cut openings, Howarth and Savory both had efforts comfortably held by Boro stopper Taylor in the space of two minutes before Ingham pulled off his outstanding reaction save, batting away Coulson's six-yard volley with a strong left hand.

Boro shaded the first half but Taddy had their moments and could have taken the lead from slick counter attack near the end of the half when Annan received a sharp ball out from Ingham and burst past Jack Johnson for Billy Whitehouse to get away a cross towards the back post that was cleared by the recovering Johnson.

Like last Saturday, the Brewers began the second 45 on the front foot with Corey Roper clipping a through ball in behind for Howarth who could not quite lob Taylor.

Taddy continued to look dangerous on the break as 18-year-old right-back Harry Sheppeard flew down the wing and crossed for Annan whose low drive was halted by Taylor before Pete Davidson shaved the crossbar with a powerful curled effort.

At the back, the pairing of Jason Mycoe and Josh Barrett defended well to keep the experienced James Walshaw and Coulson quiet while the introduction of Casey Stewart injected even more vibrancy into Albion's attack.

Tadcaster looked the more likely side to pinch a winner going into the final 10 minutes and Stewart's chip to the back post almost provided it as Howarth headed back across goal but Taylor was on hand to get it away.
