CONGRATULATIONS go to Topspin York who, despite a 6-4 defeat to Coneysthorpe B, secured the division one title in the York and District Table Tennis League.

Main players Jonny Wooldridge, Joe Wright and Nathan Taylor have performed at a consistently high level all season and thoroughly deserve their success.

Elsewhere, Filip Wojtkowiak starred as York RI A defeated their C team 6-4. Division two singles champion Ben Lockyer played superbly for the C team to overcome the highly rated Paul Robertson.

Martin Lowe and Lennart Lukosch were on top form as Coneysthorpe A posted a 7-3 victory over York RI B.

In the second division, Ian Williams was too classy as Shepherds B cruised to an 8-2 victory over York RI F.

Stephen Temple did the damage as Ryedale@RI defeated Clarence C 6-4 and a treble from Ian Hilton made the difference as Bootham B edged a close encounter with Bootham A 6-4.

It was a busy week for Strensall A; despite a maximum from Graham Hatfield, they battled to a fine 5-5 draw against Clarence C. But 48 hours later they were whitewashed 10-0 by champions Clarence B.

In the third division, a maximum haul from Gary Bunch was the highlight as Clarence CIU A saw off their B team 7-3 and BT A defeated Shepherds B 6-4 thanks to an unbeaten effort from Howard Broadbent.

Despite a fine performance from Adam Exley, Clarence F suffered a 7-3 reversal against Strensall B and Arthur Sorley was unstoppable as York RI H beat Clarence D 6-4.

In a tense relegation battle, three wins from Terry Nicholson could not prevent Clarence E sliding to a 6-4 defeat against South Bank A.

In the fourth division, promoted University C had to settle for a 5-5 draw versus BT B with Jim Stevenson excelling.

A treble from Nigel Baker was not enough to prevent South Bank B getting the better of Shepherds C 7-3 while Nathan Fairburn and Christophe Bauer were untroubled as Wigginton & Haxby C thrashed York RI I 9-1.
