DUNNINGTON were in no mood to take their foot off the gas as they underlined their champion status in squash's Yorkshire Premier League by beating Pontefract 1 4-1.

Dunnington had already sealed the title with two matches to spare, yet for the second week in succession they wheeled out their big names to record another emphatic (17-6) victory.

It was a slightly awkward night, though, for their number one, Chris Simpson.

The Guernseyman played for Pontefract against the University of Warwick Kenilworth in the Premier Squash League on Tuesday, helping them to a 4-1 away win. But he then played against them for Dunnington, beating the hosts’ stand-in number one, Abhay Singh, in four games.

Earlier, Ed Shannon had put the east York club on the road to victory with a tough straight-games triumph over Sam Wileman.

Ponte stalwart Alex Hodgetts levelled with victory against Michael Andrews, but world number 59 Richie Fallows and Lancastrian pro Julian Tomlinson secured the five bonus points for Dunnington with four-game wins over Ponte’s Lewis Doughty and Taminder Gata Aura respectively, before Simpson finished things off.

Ponte 1’s defeat allowed Chapel Allerton 1 to sneak back up to second place on points difference, thanks to a 18-5 victory over Queens Club.
