WIGGINTON Grasshoppers continued their York Fastpack Sunday Morning League division one title challenge after coming from behind to defeat Hambleton 3-1.

Hoppers extended their lead at the summit to 17 points, although second-placed title-rivals Hounds FC have six games in hand over the table-toppers.

The Selby side took an early lead when Jordan Laybourn spotted Paul Wilson off his line and chipped in from 25 yards.

Wilson responded with a couple of good saves to keep his side in the game before Harry Clapham was felled in the box, allowing Tom Metcalfe to level from the penalty spot.

The second period saw chances at both ends but Jamie Willstrop proved the difference, lashing in Wigginton’s second from 20 yards and settled the game with a third 20 minutes before the final whistle.

Division two leaders Atlanta were 7-0 winners at Clockhouse. The visitors had a four-goal lead at the break but refused to take their foot off the pedal.

Atlanta are nine points clear of Haxby United and have a better idea of true standings than Wigginton as their nearest rivals, Haxby United, have played only one game fewer.

Byron Littlefair and Ryan Heptinstall both bagged braces for the visitors while Ben Parker, Shane Hand and substitute Carl Brockhill also found the net.

Second-placed Haxby United extended their unbeaten run to 10 games with a 4-1 home win over Rawcliffe United.

A goalless first half was followed by a Harry Moorcroft brace and finishes from Tom Kilvington and Dan Clipston with Adam Curley replying for Rawcliffe who remain in eighth spot.

Walnut Tree were comfortable 5-1 home winners over White Horse thanks to a Mike Whitely hat-trick and two finishes from Chris Barratt.

York Medics were narrowly beaten 3-2 at home by Acomb Club who had substitute Jamie Edgerton to thank for the winner.

Greg Chambers netted either side of the break for the hosts while Acomb were boosted by first-half goals from Cole Carter and Oliver Spofforth.

Second-bottom Burnholme put up a good fight at home to fifth-placed Wentworth but went down 2-1 with the visitors' Dom Green on target on twice.

Danny Philips got the solitary second-half reply.

Thorpe United came away from FC Harrogate with a 9-4 win and all three points. Alex Bowden bagged four, Jake Wild scored a hat trick while Nathan Dinsdale and Rory Nicholson both added for Thorpe.

For FC Harrogate, Callum Sanpher bagged two and Zak Allen and Matt Bland added.

Bottom side Kings Head lost 4-2 at K Town United whose Jim Heels bagged a brace with Thomas Drake and Max Russell also on target.
