CITY of York Hockey Club Ladies I remain seventh in North League division one after losing 3-1 at Bowdon II - their second defeat to the Greater Manchester side this season.

The visitors started slowly and Bowdon took full advantage, scoring two in quick succession.

City regrouped and a well-worked passage of play finished with Ali Couttie chipping the ball over the keeper from inside the 'D' to halve the deficit.

City gave a more organised defensive display in the second period, but a Bowdon break saw them net their third.

City of York II lost 3-1 at home to Selby in the Yorkshire League premier division.

The hosts opened the game with a fierce intensity in a first half which saw both teams execute impressive attacks, but it was Selby who capitalised and a solid goalkeeping display ensured the visitors went into the break one up.

Selby got a second after the restart, but City retaliated quickly through Laura Jakeman following a short corner.

York keeper Alice Cullen made some excellent saves throughout, but another Selby goal finished City off.

City of York Ladies III had their game at Chapeltown in division one called off before earning a point in a 2-2 home draw with Huddersfield Dragons II 24 hours later.

The visitors struck first from an early short corner, but City equalised through Liz Armitage before she gave her side the lead in the second half. However, Dragons pulled level minutes later.

City of York Ladies IV lost 6-0 to division two leaders Hull University as they struggled to contain the visitors' well-drilled attacks.

By half-time, City were four down so changed to a man-marking tactic for the second period in which Charlotte Mattock and Celia Davis worked well together in central defence to stop Hull's persistent efforts.

Player-of-the-match Davis stopped two shots on the line to prevent a repeat of the 8-1 loss to the same opponents in November, but they could not prevent a further two goals going in.

City of York Ladies V lost 5-1 at division four north high-fliers Leeds IV before beating Harrogate IV 1-0 at home the day after.

The visitors took an early lead against Leeds from a quick ball upfield, but Leeds regrouped, and it did not take them long to find the net, going into the break with three goals to their name. City had the ball up the Leeds end, but could not breach the defence for a second time.

The visitors picked themselves up after the restart and played a good passing game, but again were unable to find the net, while Leeds had two shots from the edge of the 'D' that went in.

Rebecca Feetenby was City's player of the match.

At home to Harrogate, City were strong, dominating possession throughout. They were unsuccessful in converting their short corners in the first half, but dealt well with Harrogate's forays forward.

Early in the second period, City were awarded a short corner from which Desi Willms popped up to accept the injection and hit an immediate strike into the backboard.

The hosts pushed for a second, while keeper Cara MacKay's keen eye and good defending from player-of-the-match Sharon Clark at the other end kept Harrogate at bay.

City of York Ladies VI are still seeking their first win of the season after losing 6-1 at home to division four north leaders Scarborough. Jess Dales was City's goalscorer.

City of York Ladies VII lost 2-0 at Airedale III in division five north.

The visitors attacked the ball heavily in the first half, but an Airedale goal 15 minutes in turned the tables in their favour.

City had some chances in the second half but could not get past the Airedale keeper before the hosts got a second.

City's player of the match was Catherine Barber.
