CITY of York men's first team moved to within one point of North Hockey League division one leaders Lindum after another unbeaten double-header.

The Minster city side first had to weather a late onslaught to secure a 4-3 win at eighth-placed Chapeltown before a 3-3 home draw with Stockton 24 hours later.

City opened the visit to Chapeltown on top but went into the break one down.

The visitors started the second half with some great play from the back which set the attack in motion, and they got the equaliser as Jack Purrington finished a good move.

They scored again through a short corner goal from Alex Cockram, who then extended their lead when he tucked away a penalty flick.

Chapeltown pulled back two quick goals, but concerted City pressure resulted in Tom Feasby stroking home a penalty corner for the win.

Brave defending prevented an equaliser from a last-minute penalty corner.

On Sunday, City welcomed one of only three teams to have beaten them this season in Stockton.

The visitors opened the scoring, but once City settled into the feisty match, they began to look more threatening and forced a penalty flick, scored on the rebound by Purrington.

Stockton posed a threat on the counter, but City looked the better in build-up play, and they regained the lead early in the second half with man-of-the-match Purrington tapping in following a good team move.

Stockton hit back quickly before City went ahead again through Louis McManus, only for Stockton to equalise on the counter.

City of York IX lost 5-0 at home to the division’s second-placed side, Acomb II, who earlier in the season had beaten City 9-1 on the other side of York.

Acomb broke the deadlock midway through the half through Anthony Daley, and doubled their advantage three minutes later with Tom Brown's goal.

Richard Luscombe extended Acomb's lead just after the break before skipper Johnny Brown netted from a rebounding save and Tom Whitfield finished off the scoring.

City of York X won 3-0 at Bradford V in the men’s development north competition thanks to goals from Emil Waites, Tabby Yates and player-of-the-match Jasper Richardson.
