YORKSHIRE One leaders York RUFC coach Lee Denham sent a warning to opponents and his players alike, as he again emphasised the strength of his squad ahead of Middlesbrough’s visit to Clifton Park.

On Teesside in September, York claimed a narrow 20-19 victory – but the hosts could have nicked it with a last-minute penalty that was missed.

Denham admitted his side were off the pace for that game, and has intimated there will be no room for complacency amongst his squad.

Because of the depth and ability of his team, and with attendances at training hitting upwards of 30, Denham has a sizeable set of players to choose from.

He suggested there are no players who can walk into the squad, saying: “I will keep playing the players who are performing.”

Of the last game, he admitted: “To be fair, we weren’t very good that day, but luckily we have players who can kick on when we need them. I’d like to think we can play better this time round.

“There’ll be some changes to the front row, but only for rotational reasons - we’ve got some fantastic front-row players, and we don’t lose anything by changing the team because we’ve got such a strong squad.”

Lowly Selby took full advantage of Boro beating Wheatley Hills 40-15 last week, and lifted themselves off the bottom with an 18-12 home win over Bradford Salem.

Tomorrow they travel to Old Brodleians, who last week were beaten 32-31 at Keighley.

North Premier strugglers Pocklington will face the second Lake District outfit in as many weeks when they welcome Kirkby Lonsdale to Feathers Field on Saturday.

Last year’s North One East champions Pock are four points adrift at the bottom of the table with 10 from their 16 games, and only one win to show for their efforts. Their North One West counterparts, Kirkby, are faring a little better in 10th place, with 31 points from their 15 outings.

Last weekend, they suffered a narrow 25-24 home loss to Rossington, while Cumbrian neighbours Kendal inflicted a heavy 47-6 defeat on Pock. Kirkby were big winners against Pock back in September, claiming a 50-3 victory.

Tomorrow’s hosts have a couple of back row players unavailable, but are hopeful Christian Pollock will recover from an ankle injury to resume at fullback.

Malton & Norton fell to their second consecutive home loss when they went down 13-10 at home to North One East rivals West Leeds.

Tomorrow, Malt travel to 12th-placed Percy Park, and will be hoping that last weekend’s much-improved display carries over to this fixture in North Shields.

The Tyneside outfit ran out 40-17 winners at the Gannock earlier this season, but have only won one game since. Last weekend, they were sunk 34-17 at Huddersfield YMCA.

York RI travel to Stanley Rodillians tomorrow. Neither side managed to score last weekend, with the hosts beaten 38-0 at Hessle and leaders Rotherham Phoenix exacting revenge on RI for their win in South Yorkshire in November with a 29-0 win.
