THE York Minster Engineering Football League representative team stormed into round three of the FA Inter-League Cup with an 8-1 demolition of the Chester and Wirrall League.

Playing at Harrogate Town's ground, six players got on the scoresheet for YMEL, with Andy Simpson bagging a brace and sub Marcus Godsell doing likewise in a rapid-fire three-goal salvo at the end which wrapped up victory.

YMEL will next meet either the Lincolnshire League or Staffordshire League in another home tie.

The early exchanges against Chester and Wirrall were even, with Chris Dyson seeing a low effort saved, but, after about 10 minutes YMEL started to take control and they took the lead on 16.

A free kick to the right of the penalty area was delivered into the danger zone by man-of-the-match Chris Bilton, with Simpson rising the highest to head home.

A driving run and shot by Bilton brought another smart save from the keeper, while James Wilstrop saw his effort kept out too, with Dyson failing to capitalise on the follow-up.

YMEL finally extended their lead in the 32nd minute after a shot by Dyson was deflected wide. From the resulting corner by Nicholls, Bilton headed in.

A third quickly followed after some nice interplay by the forwards, with Wilstrop squaring to Dyson who slotted home from just inside the box.

Chester and Wirrall scored in the 39th minute to find a way back into the game, but YMEL took control again seven minutes into the second period when Dyson flicked on a long ball to Simpson, who rounded the keeper and knocked the ball into an empty net.

More good link-up play on the hour ended with Damon Cox drilling home to make it 5-1.

The York managers rang the changes between the 65th and 75th minute, with their team capping victory with three goals in three minutes right at the end.

Godsell converted from the penalty spot, Scott Nicholls struck a wonder goal from 35 to 40 yards, and Godsell rounded the keeper for his second.
