NESTLE Rowntree RUFC extended their winning record in the Yorkshire Northern Merit League One to 10 straight games with a narrow 12-5 victory over at West Park Leeds 2nds.

Only three tries were scored but it proved an entertaining game with both sides playing open rugby.

Rowntree started well but a missed penalty and then a dropped pass with the line begging seemed to unnerve them and they had to defend for a while.

They held out comfortably during this period but, as they got back into the game, they were unable to create a clear-cut chance and West Park in turn held firm.

Trees' defence was then opened up with a series of forward drives and a quick backs move saw Park score in the corner to take a 5-0 half-time lead.

The second half began with Trees driving forward and they soon went ahead. West Park infringed time and again and, while the referee allowed the advantage, he finally had to award a penalty try, which was converted.

The game became a nervy affair for the spectators until centre Nick Thompson darted in to make it 12-5 with 10 minutes remaining, with Trees going on to secure a well-deserved victory.
