YORK & District Table Tennis League division one leaders York RI ‘A’ did not play this week, allowing second-placed Topspin York to gain ground at the top of the table with a 6-4 win over Clarence ‘A’, despite Aidan Ranfler bagging an treble for the division's bottom team.
Mick Wilcockson continued his excellent first half of the season, scoring a maximum to help York RI ‘C’ secure a welcome 5-5 draw against York RI ‘B’.
Martin Lowe and Lennart Lukosch were unbeaten as Coneysthorpe ‘A’ defeated their ‘B’ team 6-4.
In division two, York RI ‘F’ carried on their improved form, as braces from Lewis McCarthy and Tom Thorp helped them to a 5-5 draw with Shepherds ‘A’. Only a maximum from a battling Ian Williams prevented the Railwaymen from recording their second successive victory.
Leaders Clarence ‘B’ showed no mercy as they crushed Strensall ‘B’ 10-0, while a treble from Ishan Bairoliya was the highlight as University ‘B’ recorded a 7-3 victory over Poppleton.
Pat Swindell and Rob Farmery were too good as Clarence ‘C’ thrashed Ryedale@RI 9-1, and a maximum haul from Mark Blackburn, supported by a brace from Ben Locker, was enough for York RI ‘D’ to clinch a 6-4 win over York RI ‘E’.
Bootham ‘B’ defeated an understrength Bootham ‘A’ 8-2, with Joe Suchecki playing well to defeat both Rachel Greener and the in-form Rich Harrison.
Wigginton & Haxby ‘A’ remain top of the third division after John McLaughlin inspired them to a close 6-4 victory over a dogged York RI ‘G’.
Despite three wins for Adam Exley, Clarence ‘F’ suffered a 6-4 reversal against Strensall ‘B’, who moved into second place.
Clarence CIU ‘A’ defeated a two-man Clarence CIU ‘B’ 8-2, and Arthur Sorley was on top form as York RI ‘H’ recorded a 6-4 win over Clarence ‘D’.
Three wins from Dave Simpson made the difference as BT ‘A’ beat Shepherds ‘B’ 6-4, and Steve Wands contributed a fine treble as Clarence ‘E’ overcame South Bank ‘A’ 7-3.
University ‘C’ moved to the top of division four as Doug Muirhead steered them to a 6-4 triumph over Wigginton & Haxby ‘B’, while Robert Plant and Benji Chandra led the way as Clarence CIU ‘C’ beat University ‘D’ 7-3.
Wiggington & Haxby ‘C’ underlined their improvement with an emphatic 10-0 victory over York RI ‘I’, and South Bank ‘B’ defeated Shepherds ‘C’ 7-3 to remain in contention for promotion.
