YORK RI ‘A’ strengthened their position at the top of division one in the York & District Table Tennis League winning 9-1 against Clarence ‘A’ and 8-2 against University ‘A’, with Paul Robertson unbeaten in both matches.

Rivals Topspin York rose to the challenge, with Joe Wright and Jonny Wooldridge steering them to an 8-2 triumph over York RI ‘B’.

A treble from Martin Lowe allowed Coneysthorpe ‘A’ to edge a close encounter with University ‘A’ 6-4.

Despite three wins from Joel Wright, Coneysthorpe ‘B’ had to settle for a 5-5 draw with York RI ‘C’.

In division two, Poppleton were thrashed 9-1 at leaders Clarence ‘B’, though Matt Ayres played superbly to pick up the visitors’ point, subjecting Alfie Potter to his first defeat of the season.

John Hughes showed a welcome return to form, with his maximum the highlight as York RI ‘D’ secured an 8-2 victory over University ‘B’.

Strensall ‘B’ recorded consecutive wins with Nigel Reeson turning in a season’s best performance in a tense 6-4 victory over Shepherds ‘A’.

Bottom team York RI ‘F’ stunned Clarence ‘C’ with three wins each for Dave Smith and Tom Thorpe, and two for Lewis McCarthy doing the damage in a 9-1 demolition.

A maximum haul from Rich Harrison proved decisive as Bootham ‘A’ defeated Ryedale@RI 6-4, while Ian Hilton was on top form as Bootham ‘B’ beat York RI ‘E’ 6-4 to inflict their first defeat of the season.

In division three, leaders Wigginton & Haxby ‘A’ made it seven wins from seven as John McLaughlin starred in a 6-4 victory over Clarence CIU B. Clarence’s Paul Seekings played well to consign Paul Halmshaw to only his second defeat of the season.

York RI ‘G’ remain in second place, with Peter Smalley's treble the highlight of a 6-4 win over Shepherds ‘B’.

New team Strensall ‘B’ moved into promotion contention as they thrashed a depleted South Bank ‘A’ 9-1.

Despite only fielding two players, Clarence CIU ‘A’ secured a win against York RI ‘H’ thanks to Jan Suchecki and Gary Bunce.

Steve Wands and Russ Scott were too strong as Clarence ‘E’ defeated their ‘D’ team 8-2 while Howard Broadbent and Nigel White were unbeaten as BT ‘A’ beat Clarence ‘F’ by the same margin.

BT ‘B’ remain without loss in division four thanks to an unbeaten effort from Jim Stevenson in a 5-5 draw against Wigginton & Haxby ‘B’.

Robert Plant and Horst Meyer were untroubled as Clarence CIU ‘C’ defeated Clarence ‘G’ 7-3, while Chris Bauer retained his 100 per cent record as Wigginton & Haxby ‘C’ thrashed Shepherds ‘B’ 8-2 for their second win of the season.
