ADAM Wright racked up a York Vikings record of 38 individual points as his team ran out 85-62 winners against Sefton Stars.

His efforts also saw Wright scoop Basketball England’s National League Division Four Player of the Week award, while James Jackson (14) and Kev Bishop (ten) also got into double figures.

Due to player illness and Remembrance Day commitments, the Vikings were understrength for the game and struggled with Sefton starting the match with lots of intensity.

However, the ever-dependable Bishop dominated at the defensive end with eight blocked shots and team captain Daniele Cucchi ensured the Vikings controlled the tempo for most of the game.

Despite a slender lead at the halfway point, York came out on fire for the third quarter with Jackson and Olly Scott making key baskets, while Wright scoring at will to establish a lead that was never relinquished.

On the away triumph, skipper Cucchi enthused: “It was another good win on the road for us and we are getting better each game we play.”

Rich Weeks, the Vikings’ head coach, added: “There were some real positives from this performance.

“We are now sitting mid-table with a view to moving towards the top four next weekend.”

Vikings are back in action tomorrow at home to Newcastle and, anybody interested, is encouraged to visit the club’s Facebook page.
