MALTON & Norton RUFC will need to improve their set-piece work if they are to gain immediate revenge for last week’s defeat at Driffield.

Malt’s good run in North One East came to an end with a 25-22 reverse to their East Yorkshire rivals, a late rally making the scoreline more respectable.

They meet again in Driffield tomorrow, this time in the Yorkshire Cup quarter-finals.

M&N spokesman Bill Laidler said: “The team have work to do, especially at the lineout, if they are to get revenge.”

Selby, struggling at the foot of Yorkshire One, host league rivals Scarborough in the Yorkshire Shield, with the seasiders the clear favourites on form, sitting below only pace-setters York after winning eight of their 10 matches. Selby followed their first win of term, against fellow stragglers Wheatley Hills, with a 65-12 reverse at York last week.

There are few fixtures in the Northern Division this weekend due to county cup ties, meaning North Premier strugglers Pocklington, Yorkshire One leaders York and York RI, in Yorkshire Four, get a break from action.

l FORMER York RUFC player Paul Williams, now a top-grade referee, will be the man in the middle for tomorrow's international between Ireland and Fiji.
