NEW Earswick Falcons winning start to the Yorkshire Over-55s League division two season ended with a 90-62 defeat to Harrogate.

The Falcons picked up only two points from one winning rink.

It came at home where Bob Elliot, Dave Kermode, Dick Osguthorpe and Ralph Tiplady fought back from 7-0 down after three ends to lead Steve Webster's rink 12-8 after 11.

Harrogate levelled with a four at the 12th end and the scores were also tied at 15-15 with four to play. Earswick won three of these, including a four at the 18th, to triumph 22-16.

Also at home, Graham Lockwood, Barry Harrison, Brian Birch and Tony Abbot trailed Gary Swift 8-2 after the first eight ends. The sides matched each other for the next six before Earswick scored a four to get back into the game at 12-9, but Harrogate got the four back at the next end and went on to win 19-13.

At Harrogate, Dave Imeson, Vic Wooley, Dave Elcock and Barry Johnson were 8-8 after nine ends against Ron Green but only scored three singles over the next nine ends to trail 21-11 with three to play. They got a four at the 12th end but went down 23-16.

Colin Ellis, Rod Walker, Mick Head and Bill Waldie started with a four but dropped a five at the second and trailed Ron Legate 10-4 after five. They levelled at 10-10 after eight ends and were only 12-11 behind after 10, but they did not score another shot over the last 11 ends and crashed 32-11.
