YORK Schoolboys Under-12s footballers maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-0 victory in a friendly against Leeds.

It was another impressive performance with two-goal Ronnie Kelly named man of the match for a super all-round show.

York started with a high tempo, forcing Leeds to defend deep, and they created the first chance when influential winger Dan Gallagher cruised past his man and crossed for Kelly, who headed just over.

Then, from a Gallagher corner, Kelly's flick was well saved by the keeper.

York’s pressure finally told when Ben Myers' long-range effort, from just inside the Leeds half, flew into the net.

York were soon creating further chances.

Paul Iggulden won the ball in centre-field and cleverly found Chris Pooley, who broke down the left and shot narrowly wide.

The busy Liam Mainprize then found striker Ronnie Kelly, who showed great feet to beat a couple of Leeds defenders only to see his shot superbly saved.

York doubled their lead when Myers found Kelly wide on the left. Kelly turned the defender and fired into the top corner.

As Leeds came into the game, last-ditch tackles from Jamie Hudson and Adam Clarkson and a brave catch from keeper George Brown snuffed out danger.

Leeds applied the pressure after the break, with Henry Jackson, who had taken over in York's goal, making two fine saves.

York’s best chance came when Chris Pooley broke from his own half, going past two defenders and rounding the keeper only for his square ball to be cleared.

After further changes the start of the third period, York started the stronger, creating numerous half-chances and seeing a flying save keep out Frazer Clarke's first-time shot.

York, in control, sealed victory when Kelly beat three defenders and curled into the far corner.

York Schoolboys U11s likewise maintained winning form with a 6-2 success at Stockton.

The game began brightly with both teams looking dangerous, before York started building pressure which eventually told - captain Charlie Thompson's long-range half-volley proving too strong for the keeper.

Positive attacking team play brought the second goal, right-winger James Rennocks applying the finishing touch.

Stockton broke through only to be thwarted by brave goalkeeping from Jack Yates, while at the other end, right-back Harry Fort's wonderful long-range effort crashed against the crossbar.

Stockton began the second half the stronger and got reward with two goals, the second a well-executed free kick.

But this was a wake-up call for York, who upped the ante in the final 15 minutes - scoring four goals through man-of-the-match Leo Berriman, Rennocks and Alex Widdup (2).

Alfie Cresswell impressed with a strong combative performance in centre-midfield, while Fort stepped into the team seamlessly at right-back. York were pleased overall with the final result but Stockton highlighted areas which need improvement.
